Welcome !

Welcome

Students today enjoy the connectedness of social networking; it is part of their very being. My goal is to bring my instruction into that cloud to teach the content required in ways that inspire online responsibility and ethics in this new, very public world.

The future of learning for our students -- personal links chosen from need and interest to focused learning with global content networks, moderated by guides who both compel and propel the progression and expansion of the content for the learners and the learning. It's more than education, it's educonnection, educarocracy, or demoeducare.

Think about it:
educare -- led out
kratia -- power

Think about it:
demo: the people
educare: lead out

My Story:
My story continues; it's always been about learning from and with others. I have ten grandchildren with whom I share the love of learning, and for whom I strive to ensure that education becomes open, innovative, and free once again. I taught my sons to be independent and creative problem-solvers; they have been able through continued independent learning to be successful in their lives. Isn't that what we want for our children?
My Ideal School is a Place Where:
Student interest and needs are honored; innovative teachers who support those student needs and interests are supported; learning is personalized and shared in a community of shared passions. Problems and projects provide the vehicles whereby the learning needs are met, whether those needs are intellectual, social, or academic. The content is not stagnant, nor textbook-based; the content is found and evaluated, shared and analyzed, created and presented to solve a problem or complete a project. Learning is continuous, shared, and improved. Is school a place? It's a place wherever learners gather to further their own and each other's goals for growth, problems to solve, and projects to produce.

Hi Sheri, and welcome to the Five Freedoms Network. It's great to have you here, and wonderful that you bring such a tech-savvy perspective! How did you hear about us?

We're partnering with The Forum for Education and Democracy on their Will We Really Campaign, launched on February 6, and hope you'll take a few minutes to visit the campaign web site: www.willwereally.org!

As you can see from the world map on our home page, we have a growing, eclectic community of individuals from across the globe -- from Brooklyn to Pakistan, from North Dakota to China. Thank you for taking the time to add your voice to that fascinating mix.

As you surf around the Network and its companion site, www.fivefreedoms.org, I urge you to share your voice throughout. Take our You Be The Judge First Amendment quiz (a new scenario every two weeks). Leave a comment on a fellow member's personal page and make a new contact. Upload a video to our gallery, or watch and react to one already there. Join (or start) a group or visit the Soapbox to contribute to (or start) a discussion. And invite others to join us.

In short, use your voice to co-create our online community :-)

Post a comment on my page anytime with questions or ideas. Thanks again!
