Through Public Achievement, people of all ages work with others to meet challenges and solve problems. They learn from each other the meaning of citizenship and democracy. Ordinary people do extraordinary things.

Teaching at MCTC for 29 years in Health and Physical Education. I am a former basketball coach. I missed the interaction and the "intrusive advising" coaching provided. I discovered Public Achievement and the rich store of possible relationships built through Public Work when I helped to develop the Urban Parks, Recreation and Youth Development Program here at MCTC. That is the time my teaching career made sense to me and I was rewarded with more professional satisfaction and vigor.
Currently I am working in Loring Park (a comunity that shares Loring Park with the College) while I am on Sabbatical. We are creating a neighborhood based on connection and asset building. We are the Healthy Place Healthy People group. Our group is made up of college students from around the metro area, community members, agency members, business members and faculty and staff at the college.
We view health through the lense of social justice.

Hi Diane! Yes I'll be at the Friday Breakfast and I look forward to catching up! I do have to save time for a project working with my former PA group, so we can talk early before the breakfast at 7:50 or during one of the breaks?
Thanks!!!!
Hi Diane,
I wanted to be sure you knew how to join the Public Achievement Group here on the Network. If you click this link, you'll be at the PA Group page. To the right of the "Public Achievement" name, you'll see a link "+ Join Public Achievement".
Looking forward to seeing you there :-)
Your Health course sounds like a great idea! Please keep me posted. Are you interested in sharing with other community colleges? I'm thinking my son's school (Nashua [NH] Community College) might be interested. They are just launching an Associate's Degree in Peace and Social Justice, too. Lots of connections!
Yes, ma'am - absolutely! What I'd recommend you do is start a Group for your school. If you click on "Groups" in the navigation bar just below the Five Freedoms Network banner, you can set it up. Let me know if you have any questions :-)
Hi Diane, and welcome to the Five Freedoms Network. It's great to have you here!
I love your theory of action around health, and share your enthusiasm for Public Achievement! I look forward to hearing more about your work and connecting in the Public Achievement Group here on the Network :-)
Meanwhile, here's your official Five Freedoms Network welcome:
We're partnering with The Forum for Education and Democracy on their Will We Really Campaign, launched on February 6, and hope you'll take a few minutes to visit the campaign web site: www.willwereally.org!
As you can see from the world map on our home page, we have a growing, eclectic community of individuals from across the globe -- from Brooklyn to Pakistan, from North Dakota to China. Thank you for taking the time to add your voice to that fascinating mix.
As you surf around the Network and its companion site, www.fivefreedoms.org, I urge you to share your voice throughout. Take our You Be The Judge First Amendment quiz (a new scenario every two weeks). Leave a comment on a fellow member's personal page and make a new contact. Upload a video to our gallery, or watch and react to one already there. Join (or start) a group or visit the Soapbox to contribute to (or start) a discussion. And invite others to join us.
In short, use your voice to co-create our online community :-)
Post a comment on my page anytime with questions or ideas. Thanks again!
